A Refined Retreat in the City: Experiencing Herbal Cuisine Through Space and Atmosphere
Entering Chen Yu Qing feels like stepping through a doorway into a hidden sanctuary. A long staircase draws the eye and guides guests inward, while calligraphic inscriptions along the side wall infuse the space with a strong sense of Eastern aesthetics. From the first step, visitors are immersed in a setting that blends culture, art, and calm.
The restaurant’s spatial design merges traditional Eastern sensibilities with modern functionality. Walls are accented with rust-like metal finishes, creating layered detail that echoes the brand’s focus on nature and nourishment. At the center of the main dining area, a poetic water feature and mist effect evoke an ethereal atmosphere. A black and gold stone at the heart of the pool enhances the sense of tranquility, allowing each guest to feel as if they are tasting herbal broth in a place surrounded by clouds and mist.
Brand Story Embedded in Every Detail
Every space within Chen Yu Qing reflects the brand’s philosophy. From its name to its spatial layout, the restaurant embodies a contemporary Eastern aesthetic. Private rooms are named after the four seasons and feature sunken, tatami-style seating and large floor-to-ceiling windows. Natural light and outdoor views are drawn indoors, turning each meal into a journey of physical and emotional restoration.
Material Use: Balancing Aesthetics and Practicality
Unlike residential projects, commercial spaces must balance beauty, durability, and cost. At Chen Yu Qing, dining tables are made from engineered boards that mimic stone (Hi-Macs type boards), providing excellent heat and scratch resistance while remaining elegant. This reduces long-term maintenance and supports high-traffic use. In the restrooms, wabi-sabi inspired cement finishes are employed for easy cleaning and durability. These spaces are named “Dragon Grotto” and “Phoenix Nest,” reinforcing the refined and symbolic nature of the new Eastern aesthetic.
Art and Function Combined
Every detail is carefully curated. From special wall coverings along the corridors to the choice of materials on vertical surfaces, the design elevates the artistic quality of the space while maintaining budget control. The interplay between Eastern and Western aesthetics makes the restaurant feel like a gallery. Guests can savor nourishing herbal chicken soup while simultaneously enjoying an environment where art and nature meet.
A Hidden Sanctuary Within the City
HOZI’s vision for Chen Yu Qing is to create more than a restaurant. It is designed as a place of retreat in the city. Guests can enjoy slow-simmered herbal broths while surrounded by natural elements and Eastern-inspired design, allowing their minds to relax and reset.
Chen Yu Qing is a design practice in which space, brand philosophy, and dining experience are seamlessly integrated. Every corner and every detail conveys the brand’s dedication to nature, nourishment, and Eastern aesthetics.
